We are all hoping for a fresh start in 2021.  Last year was difficult for so many people; from a health perspective with surviving the pandemic and the worry and anxiety that came with that; dealing with home schooling and for many people surviving from a work perspective also brought about its challenges.  Communicating via Zoom and Teams became the ‘norm’ and being able to ‘pivot’ within your business to still make it work under the tough circumstances became a ‘must do’ in order to survive.

During the first lockdown, it was great to give back, when we were able to turn our hand to making some gowns for the local doctor’s surgery and also local care staff when they faced a shortage of PPE.  This was followed swiftly by some mask making too.

We feel lucky that we were able to continue to work from home and via email, calls etc.  2020 certainly was the year for video calls to become another form of communication with our clients.   It turns out it works extremely well.  An initial call over the phone can be followed up with a video call where you can show us the room(s), we can guide you to taking measurements and discuss all the details of what you are looking for.  Some clients have supplied us with wallpaper samples or paint colours to match to, others prefer help from the very beginning of the process to select colours etc.  We have been able to drop off sample books/swatches to the door or post them out.   We can work with you to select the fabrics you like and work on the finer details of your made to measure items.

At Sew Special Soft Furnishings this year, we are looking ahead to working with existing and new clients to help them fulfil their interior dreams in 2021.  Whilst many people spend more time in their own homes, it is nice to feel that we can make a difference to how people ‘feel’ by adding that magic touch of homeliness, the warmth and cosiness that interlined curtains can bring or the finishing touch to a contemporary scheme with fitted roman blinds for example.
