At Sew Special Soft Furnishings we use our experience to guide you through every step of the process to help you choose exactly what you would like.
So what does made to measure mean?
Essentially you get to select everything.
Which fabric would you like?
We have accounts with a number of suppliers and can source fabric from many different brands.
Think about what kind of feel you would like cotton, velvet, linen mix, silk, wool, voile etc
Would you like the fabric to be printed, woven, damask or perhaps embroidered?
In terms of design would you prefer plain, textured, striped, checked, geometric shapes, floral, leaves, patterned?
Which lining would you like us to use?
Do you struggle with too much light streaming in to your bedroom or need to sleep when it’s still light outside? We can supply blackout lining to help with this. Alternatively, a Cotton sateen lining is available.
Do you need to keep out the draughts or would you just like your curtains to look even more luxurious? An interlining can be added between the layers of fabric and lining.
Which heading would work for your style?
Handmade headings give a crisp finish either double or triple pleat, cartridge, goblet or inverted pleat. You can add other trims and embellishments.
Would you like a contemporary look with an eyelet heading (available in a variety of colours including silver, chrome, brass etc) or a wave heading?
A simple heading of pencil pleat or deep pencil pleat tape may be preferred. If you would like a more relaxed feel then perhaps a ‘cottage top’ or ‘flop over top’ heading would be preferential.
How would you like to hang your curtains?
How would you like to hang your curtains? – underneath a pole using lined rings to glide along a metal pole or wooden rings for a wooden pole or would you prefer a track?

Tracks:
We have a wide variety of tracks available from our suppliers which can be face fixed or ceiling mounted, and straight, curved or bent in a range of colours including white, black, silver or gold, depending upon the windows/doors.
What makes our curtains different?
Curtains at Sew Special Soft Furnishings are hand-made, hems are carefully hand sewn and finished with mitred corners and weights are inserted, headings are pleated up, sewn and then finished by hand.
We can decide where the pleats will sit depending upon the pattern placement. The length is made to your specification, maybe to sit just above the floor or puddle on the floor, the choice is yours.
Accessories
Tiebacks
Tiebacks are a lovely finishing touch and we can supply a wide range of options to coordinate with your fabric and look.
Valances
Valances can be made with a pencil pleat heading and mounted on a track in front of the curtains.
Flat Pelmets
Flat Pelmets can be made either straight or shaped and mounted with Velcro on a batten above the curtains.
Customised Curtains
We can cater for awkward shaped windows – eg. round, arched, pointed, bay etc
Curtains can really be made in to a bespoke piece by adding a contrast leading edge in another fabric. If the main fabric is patterned you may like to add a plain edge.
Your made to measure curtains can also have a band across the top or bottom of the curtain, again in another fabric of your choice. This can be quite effective if you would like a light colour curtain but are worried about the bottom gathering dust, so adding in a darker border can help.
